We are delighted to announce the official release of Minarca version 6, a major update to our data backup software which continues to evolve to meet the needs of our users. After several beta versions and invaluable feedback from the community, this new version introduces significant improvements that enhance the performance, ergonomics and security of your backups. Here's an overview of the main new features.
New features and key functions
Support for multiple backups
One of the most eagerly awaited new features in Minarca 6 is multiple backup configuration. This feature enables you to create multiple backup configurations, in line with the 3-2-1 strategy (3 copies of data, 2 different media or services, 1 off-site copy). You can now back up to remote servers, local disks or network shares, increasing the flexibility and security of your data.
Redesigned User Interface
With the help of UX experts, Minarca has undergone a complete overhaul of its user interface. It's more modern, intuitive and professional, making it easier to configure and manage backups. Whether you're a professional or an individual, this new interface guarantees a more pleasant user experience.
Support for network shares
Minarca 6 now introduces the option of configuring backup destinations on network shares. This enables users to easily store their backups on NAS devices or Samba network shares, thus enhancing storage options. Under Windows, however, it is necessary to manually enter the destination location, e.g. \\server-name\path\.
Partial or full restoration: greater flexibility
File restore functionality has been completely redesigned to offer even greater flexibility. Minarca 6 now supports full or partial restore, enabling users to restore an entire system or just the specific files they need. Whether following a system failure or simple human error, the new restore functionality ensures fast, accurate data recovery.
With this new feature, you have the freedom to restore your files directly from the Minarca application, without having to go through the web interface. This approach guarantees faster, more efficient restoration management, with just a few clicks.
Our Future Plans
Although Minarca 6 represents a major step forward, there are still many ideas and features to come. We would have liked to integrate everything in this version, but there comes a time when you have to stop adding new features and release a stable version with the elements ready to use.
Here's an overview of our plans for future updates:
- Run scripts before and/or after backup: This feature will automate related tasks, such as database backup or image optimization before backup, facilitating more customized backup configurations.
- Improved transfer performance via SSH: We are working to select the most optimal encryption to maximize data transfer speed when backing up via SSH, for greater efficiency.
- Advanced file auto-discovery: We plan to add automatic detection of additional files, such as passwords saved in Thunderbird, Firefox and Google Chrome, to simplify backup configuration for users.
- Optimization of the graphical web interface: Improvements are also planned to make Minarca's web interface even more responsive and intuitive.
- Creating a Docker image of Minarca Server: We intend to provide an official Docker image of Minarca Server, making server installation and management even more accessible and rapid, especially in virtualized environments.
We'll continue to enhance Minarca with these additions to deliver an ever more powerful, flexible and intuitive backup experience.
Conclusion
With these new features and enhancements, Minarca 6 is better equipped than ever to meet the needs of its users, whether in a personal or professional environment. We're looking forward to seeing how this version is received, and we'll be listening to your feedback as we continue to improve the product.
